Strategic Policy Alliances

With the release of Breaking Ranks II, Breaking Ranks in the Middle, Creating a Culture of Literacy, Making the Mathematics Curriculum Count, Breaking Ranks: A Field Guide for Leading Change, and more recently, Breaking Ranks: 10 Skills for Successful School Leaders, NASSP has reaffirmed its commitment to improving middle level and high schools across the country.

To further the impact of these practical reform guides, NASSP has issued policy recommendations, which, if enacted, will provide a fertile ground for positive and sustainable change. AdLit.org
NASSP is a partner with AdLit.org, a national multimedia project offering information and resources to the parents and educators of struggling adolescent readers. AdLit.org is an educational initiative of WETA, a public television and radio station in Washington, D.C., with funding from the Carnegie Corporation and the Friedman Family Foundation. America's Promise Alliance
NASSP is a partner in the America’s Promise Alliance. Founded by General Colin Powell, it is a large multi-sector collaborative dedicated to the well-being of young people and to providing them resources to succeed. The Alliance brings together businesses, nonprofits, elected officials, education groups, funders and individuals of all ages to help youth achieve through the Five Promises framework.
Common Core State Standards Initiative
NASSP supports the Common Core State Standards Initiative to produce a common core of voluntary state standards across grades K-12 in English-language arts and mathematics. These research-based, rigorous standards have now been released with the goal of guaranteeing that every American student graduates high school with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the 21st century. The Initiative is led by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers.
CSIET and State Department “Host Exchange Students” Campaign
The Council on Standards for International Educational Travel, in conjunction with the Department of State and the youth exchange community, have launched the "Host Exchange Students" public service campaign. The campaign features a website and nationwide public service announcements. The campaign encourages American families and schools to get involved in citizen diplomacy by opening their communities to foreign exchange students.
Data Quality Campaign (DQC)
The Data Quality Campaign promotes the development and use of relevant data as an essential tool for improving schools. NASSP determined what kinds of data school leaders need and collaborated with DQC on the development of a data toolkit for principals. Another partner, the Council of Chief State School Officers, has developed www.SchoolDataDirect.org, a resource for school leaders to access and download data on any public school or district in the United States.
Learning First Alliance
NASSP is a member of the Learning First Alliance, a partnership of major education organizations that collaborate to promote public education through activities including research, conferences, and communications. Hosted by the Learning First Alliance, www.publicschoolinsights.org presents a fresh, 21st-century vision for public schools, with real examples of what is working in all kinds of public schools and districts.
National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform
NASSP is a leading member of this alliance of over 60 educators, researchers, national associations, and officers of professional organizations and foundations committed to promoting the academic performance and healthy development of young adolescents.
Partnership for 21st Century Skills
The Partnership for 21st Century Skills is the leading advocacy organization focused on infusing 21st century skills into education. The organization brings together the business community, education leaders, and policymakers to define a powerful vision for 21st century education to ensure every child's success as citizens and workers in the 21st century. NASSP supports the National Action Agenda on 21st Century Skills.
Pathways to College Network
This alliance of 38 national organizations and funders is committed to advancing college access and success for underserved students. Pathways, in collaboration with NASSP and others, has developed the College Readiness for All Toolbox, a dynamic action guide designed to help education professionals prepare more low-income and minority students for postsecondary education.
RTI Action Network
NASSP is a proud founding partner of this national initiative dedicated to the responsible and effective implementation of response to intervention (RTI). The network provides information and tools to assist educators and families as they help each child succeed. It is a program of the National Center for Learning Disabilities.
