Massachusetts, Oregon, and South Carolina Administrators Named 2012 NASSP/Virco National Assistant Principal of the Year Finalists
National winner to be announced at NASSP Conference in March

Reston, VA—For their exemplary leadership and initiatives undertaken in technology, personalization, and curriculum and instruction, the following school leaders have been named finalists for the 2012 NASSP/Virco National Assistant Principal of the Year:

NASSP and school furniture manufacturer Virco Inc. annually honor a winner from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity schools. Selection criteria are built around collaborative leadership; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and school personalization—the core areas of the NASSP Breaking Ranks Framework for school improvement. The three finalists were selected from the pool of state winners, and one national winner will be identified and announced during the 2012 NASSP Breaking Ranks K-12 Conference, March 10, in Tampa, FL. Each finalist will receive $1,500 and the national winner will be awarded $5,000, which can be used for personal professional development or for a school improvement project.

All state winners will be honored at a three-day event in Washington, DC, April 18-21, 2012. Event highlights feature a national speaker, visits to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators, and networking with some of the best assistant principals across the nation.  The event culminates with a black-tie gala to recognize the achievements of each of the state honorees, the national finalists, and the national winner.

“Research shows that principals and assistant principals create the conditions for schools to be successful and for students to achieve,” said JoAnn Bartoletti, NASSP executive director. “Recognizing and acknowledging the quality of our school leaders is an honor.”

“Virco is proud to support America's assistant principals by contributing to their professional development and acknowledging their important achievements,” said Brian True, Virco director of sales. "We're happy to sponsor the NASSP/Virco National Assistant Principal of the Year Program.”
