NASSP Legislative Agenda

Sen. Al Franken (left) speaks with former NASSP Executive Director Gerald N. Tirozzi

Bringing the issues of the principalship to the halls of Congress, the White House, and the news media to give school leaders a national voice is a main goal of NASSP.

We monitor legislation directly affecting education, communicate with congressional offices and the U.S. Department of Education, and actively participate in coalition-building activities. As an advocate for secondary schools, NASSP seeks to affect public policy by changing attitudes, shaping public debate, and informing public thought through editorials, policy briefings, and regular interaction with the nation's news media.

Nothing rings more loudly to a member of Congress, however, than the voice of a constituent. To allow the principal's voice to be heard more readily, NASSP provides the Principal's Legislative Action Center (PLAC), through which NASSP members can easily identify and contact their elected officials.
