NASSP will donate $1 to the American Red Cross on behalf of each of its members - $23,000 in total - to support the organization's ongoing relief efforts in response to the devastating storms in the Northeast last month.
"The flood waters have receded and the winds have died down, but there is still tremendous need for shelter, food, water, and other assistance in these hard hit areas," said JoAnn Bartoletti, NASSP executive director. "Schools and communities affected by these storms have a long, difficult recovery in front of them, and the NASSP family is proud to lend a helping hand."
NASSP members interested in making additional donations are encouraged to visit the American Red Cross website, www.redcross.org/charitable-donations, and to mark their donation specifically to the Hurricane Sandy relief effort.
The Department of Education has set up a hotline (855-385-9985) and e-mail address (EdSchoolInfo@ed.gov) to provide answers to questions, share information, and make references to helpful resources. Members can also visit the American Red Cross website for details on local and national assistance efforts.
