Virtual Town Halls Connect School Leaders in Times of Crisis
The COVID-19 crisis—and school closures and event cancellations that followed—have tested the leadership of principals around the country in ways we never anticipated, calling on them to provide their communities with extraordinary support under unprecedented conditions. To support school leaders and address their top-of-mind issues such as ensuring the well-being of students and their families, maintaining communication and sustaining the life of the school, leading remote learning, and planning for transition into a new school year, NASSP hosted a virtual town hall series, Leading Through Crisis. Assistant Principal of the Year Announced
During National Assistant Principals Week celebrations last month, April 6–10, NASSP honored Debra Paradowski, assistant principal of Arrowhead Union High School in Hartland, WI, as the 2020 NASSP Assistant Principal of the Year (APOY). Paradowski believes a healthy, safe, and positive school culture that supports students and staff is paramount for learning and a sense of belonging. She started a student-centered group called Students Leaving a Mark to improve the school culture. By giving students a voice in their school’s routines, they were empowered to become confident learners. The school observed an increase in positive behavior, attendance, academic accomplishments, and pride. Congratulations again to Debra Paradowski!
