Originally planned as part of the 2020 Advocacy Conference prior to its rescheduling, NASSP’s Policy and Advocacy Center is now hosting this “breakout session” as a webinar to provide you with a virtual learning opportunity. This is just one of the ways NASSP will continue to support you and your community during these uncertain times.

You know that outstanding school leaders make for outstanding schools, but it’s not always easy to communicate to elected officials the numerous ways that principals enhance their school communities and impact student achievement. That’s why the most powerful way to convey this message is simply to let them spend a day in your shoes. Inviting lawmakers to your school for “shadowing visits” provides a wonderful opportunity for officials to experience firsthand the role and responsibilities of exemplary principals. Furthermore, it provides the perfect occasion for you to highlight the excellent leadership that principals provide to schools, educators, and students around the country. This webinar will cover best practices for securing a visit with a lawmaker, for when that time does come, and how to influence their attitudes toward public education while they’re in your school.
