The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) issued the following statement on today’s House passage of the Continuing Resolution

“Averting a shutdown gives educators breathing room, but now it’s time to think big for our students,” said Ronn Nozoe, CEO of NASSP. “We need to seize this opportunity to push for a comprehensive budget that truly invests in education. We’re calling on Congress to engage with educators and students and craft a budget that addresses critical needs like support for high-needs students, strengthening our educator workforce and expanding mental health resources. We can transform this short-term fix into a long-term commitment to educational excellence. Congress must fully fund Title I, Title II, IDEA and other critical federal K–12 programs.”

“The budget debates in Washington have real consequences in our classrooms,” said Suzan Harris, principal of Henderson Middle School in Jackson, GA. “We have one full-time therapist to serve both our middle and high school. Their overwhelming caseload forces impossible choices on educators and leaves vulnerable students without critical care. But we’re not giving up. NASSP members and I are ready to work with our representatives on a budget that allows us to fully meet our students’ needs. Imagine what we could achieve when school leaders are equipped with the resources that match our educators’ dedication and our students’ potential.”
