Washington, DC—”We are pleased that the Senate Appropriations Committee allocated $2.05 billion, preserving the current funding level, for the Supporting Effective Instruction State Grants program (Title II-A) in its FY 19 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies bill.

“Overwhelmingly approved by a bipartisan Congress, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides opportunities for states to use Title II-A funds to invest in teachers, principals, and other school leaders to transform schools and improve student achievement, including through the use of evidence-based strategies. By funding Title II-A, Congress provides states, districts, and schools with the resources necessary to make meaningful investments in their educators and students.

“Of note, this allocation would allow the 24 states that have committed to using a new Title II-A set-aside to invest in leadership to move forward with their plans to strengthen school leadership and advance their goals related to school improvement and preparing all students for success in college and career.

“We strongly urge the House Appropriations Committee to follow the Senate Appropriations Committee’s example by maintaining a strong investment for Title II-A during the full committee markup of its bill. We welcome the chance to be a resource for appropriators during this process, as our organizations remain deeply committed to ensuring states, districts, schools, and their partners have access to crucial resources that can be used to invest in school leaders and teachers and the students, schools, and communities they serve.”
