Take Action Now | School Safety and Support | Supporting Student Wellness

As part of NASSP’s mission to support school leaders in creating supportive and thriving learning environments, we empower our members to advocate for state and federal policies that will better support public schools, strengthen the teacher and principal pipelines, provide more resources to students for their mental health, well-being, and safety, and expand unique learning opportunities for all students that better prepare them for postsecondary success.

Use the resources below to contact your local, state, and federal elected officials and advocate for the policies we need to strengthen schools and ensure student success.

Shadowing Visits With Lawmakers

You know that outstanding school leaders make for outstanding schools, but elected officials don’t always realize the many ways principals create the environment necessary for student success. The most powerful way to convey this message to policymakers is to let them see it for themselves by inviting them to visit your school. Use these resources to extend invitations to your elected officials and plan a visit with them at the school

NAESP-NASSP 2025 Federal Legislative Agenda

  • Each year, the two leading national school leader organizations release a Federal Legislative Agenda outlining our top federal policy and advocacy priorities for school leaders. The Federal Legislative Agenda urges Congress to uphold its responsibility to strengthen public education by fully investing in public schools and supporting policies that ensure all students have access to high-quality educators, safe learning environments, and the resources they need to thrive.

Step Up Your Advocacy

School Safety and Support

The NASSP Principal Recovery Network (PRN) is a national network of current and former school leaders who have experienced gun violence tragedies in their buildings. Together, the PRN assists principals in the immediate aftermath of a crisis and well beyond. PRN members reach out directly to their colleagues to provide much-needed support, share the combined wisdom of their experience with the larger principal community through various outlets, assist schools during recovery, and advocate for national school safety enhancements and violence prevention programs.

If you’ve faced a school shooting, PRN members are here to help—contact [email protected] to connect or access the PRN Guide to Recovery
