PLC Event Engages Wallace Pipeline Initiative Principals

The NASSP-Wallace Professional Learning Community (PLC) convened in Reston, VA, in November. Sixty principals and their district project directors came together to develop tools, processes, and strategies to impact the daily practices of the principals in the six districts that are a part of The Wallace Foundation’s Principal Pipeline Initiative. Over the course of two days, the PLC was able to gauge how the program is addressing the most important aspects needed by principals—including The Wallace Foundation’s five key practices of effective principals—to be most beneficial to their work as school leaders. The PLC community will meet again in the spring. Visit www.wallacefoundation.org to learn more.

Annual Survey Shows Impact of NHS, NJHS, and NASC Student Programs

Advisers of NASSP’s student programs—National Honor Society (NHS), National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), and National Association of Student Councils (NASC)—recently reported the activity of more than 34,000 student groups representing Honor Society chapters and NASC student councils for the 2014–15 academic year. These student leadership organizations annually engage in service projects that result in a significant number of volunteer service hours and a substantial amount of dollars raised for charitable causes. The latest report, available at www.nassp.org/servicereport, showed that councils and chapters nationwide completed 2.5 million hours of service to communities and schools and raised $2.8 million in charitable giving.
