State Principals of the Year to Be Honored

NASSP will honor all State Principals of the Year this month at the annual Principals Institute. Held in Washington, D.C., each year, this event gives honorees the opportunity to attend a series of professional development activities and meetings with their respective members of Congress.

Each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas Schools, and the Department of Defense Education Activity selected one middle level or high school principal for the distinction. During the Principals Institute, three finalists for the 2018 National Principal of the Year award will be recognized. The winner of National Principal of the Year will be announced during National Principals Month in October.

October Is National Principals Month

For all that you do, we want to celebrate you! Next month is designated as National Principals Month by NASSP, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the American Federation of School Administrators to honor the contributions our nation’s principals make to helping all students succeed.

One way you can demonstrate the important role you play is to invite members of Congress to your school for shadowing visits. Don’t forget to use #ThankAPrincipal on social media when sharing how your school is celebrating. Visit www.principalsmonth.org for more celebration ideas, including free e-cards to send to fellow school leaders.
