The NASSP Board of Directors seeks qualified candidates to fill five (5) vacant positions.

All Board positions to start August 1, 2026; 5 of whom serve a 3-year term (August 1, 2026 – July 31, 2029).

As per the NASSP Articles of Incorporation Article III, The Association is committed to the improvement and strengthening of PK-12 education.

  • Promoting high professional standards
  • Focusing attention on school leaders’ challenges
  • Providing a national voice for school leaders
  • Building public confidence in education
  • Strengthening the role of the principal as instructional leader
  • Publicizing the issues and interests of association members in the news media

Timelines for 2026 Nominations Cycle

  • Nominations Portal Opens Monday, January 12, 2026 at Noon (ET)
  • Nominations Portal Closes Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. (ET)
  • Candidates to be notified of their status by Friday, March 13, 2026
  • Selected candidates to partake in an in-person interview March 19-23, 2026 in Phoenix, AZ
  • Final selected candidates to be notified by April 30, 2026

Expectations to Serve on the NASSP Board of Directors

  • Must be active NASSP members who are practicing principals or assistant principals
  • Must be able to attend three in-person Board meetings annually in the Spring, Summer, and Fall as well as participate in virtual Committee meetings throughout the year
  • Must be willing to act in the best interest of the organization, rather than the interests of a constituency, state, region, or special interest group
  • Must attend, be prepared for, and conscientiously participate in the board’s work for a three-year term or selected term length
  • Must demonstrate a proven interest in the mission of NASSP and have a knowledge and understanding of the work of NASSP
  • Must work to protect NASSP assets and provide financial oversight by assisting in annual budget development and ensuring proper financial controls are in place
  • Must avoid even the appearance of conflict and must disclose any potential conflicts
  • Must exhibit the characteristics sought by NASSP as reflected in the board of directors’ Candidate Profile below, although candidates need not meet all criteria

Candidate Profile

  • Section 1. Experience with NASSP
    • Proven interest in the mission of NASSP
    • Knowledge and understanding of the work of NASSP

  • Section 2. Professional Attributes and Experience as a strategic leader
    • Extensive professional network of educators, business leaders, and policymakers
    • Experience with public policy advocacy (at the local, state, or federal level)
    • Initiative and engagement contributions as a Board member, ability to differentiate role of a general member and Board seat 

  • Section 3. Governance Experience and Attributes
    • Experienced board and/or governance member
    • Experience with financial management oversight (budget responsibility and fiscal accountability)
    • Willingness to act in the best interest of the organization as a whole, rather than the interest of a particular constituency, state, special-interest group or individual
    • Demonstrates commitment to consistent participation in the board’s work, prioritizing service over self-interest.
