Counting Down to AP Week

Time to celebrate the contributions of your assistant principal(s)! National Assistant Principals Week is April 10–14, 2017. There are plenty of ways schools, students, parents, and community members can show their recognition and appreciation for the important work of these integral members of the school leadership team. For ideas or to send an e-card, visit www.nassp.org/apweek. Also share your photos and stories on social media using #apweek17.

NASSP Joins Forces with Overcoming Obstacles

NASSP is partnering with life skills curriculum developer Overcoming Obstacles to incorporate life skills training more consistently throughout the K–12 continuum. Overcoming Obstacles, developed by the Community for Education Foundation Inc., will exclusively sponsor NASSP’s Breakthrough Schools program and the Breakthrough Schools principals’ participation in the McKinsey Management Program for School Leaders. The partnership comes in advance of the much-anticipated release of an elementary life skills school curriculum. The curriculum will be unveiled at the 2017 National Principals Conference, July 9–11, 2017, in Philadelphia.

Revamped and Revised: Leading Success Professional Learning

When NASSP’s free online toolkit launched several years ago, it was met with enthusiasm by principals who wanted quality professional development for their staff, but found putting a program into place a challenge, either logistically or financially.

Leading Success gives principals the ability to deliver—within their building at no cost—collaborative training based on current research and strategies used by high-performing schools around the country.

You can find the toolkit’s readings, videos, and activities-including a brand—new module on school safety—at www.leadingsuccess.org. Look for ongoing updates as best practices, resources, and needs evolve.

Celebrate Your Student Leaders

Students around the globe are “making a world of difference” during National Student Leadership Week, April 16–22, 2017. This annual theme-based week is dedicated to recognizing and supporting the important role of student leaders. NASSP’s student organizations—the National Association of Student Councils, National Honor Society, and National Junior Honor Society—sponsor the week. Visit www.nasc.us/nslw, www.nhs.us/nslw, or www.njhs.us/nslw for ideas to celebrate your student leaders.
