Assistant Principals Celebrated Nationwide
To honor the critical role assistant principals play in student success, NASSP, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the American Federation of School Administrators designated the second week in April as AP Week. School leaders, teachers, students, and parents were encouraged to participate, and school communities around the country answered the call—many sent e-cards, held celebratory events, shared words of appreciation via social media, and more. Student Volunteers Honored in Washington, D.C.
As honorees in The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, the top two youth volunteers from each state and the District of Columbia enjoyed four days of special recognition events in our nation’s capital, April 28–May 1. While attending the Washington, D.C., event, 10 of the honorees were named America’s top youth volunteers of 2018 and each received a $5,000 award, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy, and a $5,000 grant from the Prudential Foundation for the nonprofit charitable organization of their choice. This program, conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with NASSP, is based exclusively on volunteer community service and has honored more than 115,000 service-minded young people at the local, state, and national levels since 1995. Among this year’s honorees are 48 members of NASSP’s student programs—20 from National Honor Society and 28 from National Student Council. Inspire Your Rising Student Leaders
Featuring three action-packed days of inspiring and energizing leadership development workshops, the National Student Council Conference is an ideal opportunity for rising student council leaders to prepare for their leadership positions in the coming school year. The event takes place June 25–27 at Wayzata High School near Minneapolis, featuring a theme of Leadership MaNia. Kat Perkins, a contestant from “The Voice,” and Monte Selby, a Grammy award-winning songwriter and educator, are scheduled to appear as keynoters.
