Serving as a school leader means making decisions every day that impact students, staff, and communities. For many principals and assistant principals, there comes a moment when the question shifts from “How do I lead my school well?” to “How can my experience help shape the profession?”

Serving on the NASSP Board of Directors enables you to answer that question. Here are three reasons to apply.

1. Shape national education priorities
Serving on the NASSP Board allows principals and assistant principals to bring real, on-the-ground perspective into national conversations about PreK–12 education. Board members help guide decisions and unite school leaders across roles, regions, and grade levels around shared priorities that influence the future of the profession.

2. Advance student leadership and student voice.

Board service includes oversight and support of NASSP’s student programs—NHSNJHSNEHS, and NASC—which develop leadership, service, and character in students across the country. Board members also help elevate student voice through national advocacy efforts, bringing student and school leader perspectives together to inform conversations about education policy and priorities.

3. Grow your leadership beyond your school.

Board service is both a responsibility and an opportunity. Members collaborate with experienced school leaders, engage in strategic governance, and deepen their understanding of advocacy, professional learning, and organizational leadership—all while supporting a mission-driven organization.
